About

Lihua Chen is an artist with over two decades of experience in the creative field. She is also a freelance writer, contributing feature articles, essays, and art criticism to radio programs, magazines, and gallery exhibitions. Currently based in New York, her artistic practice spans painting, video, and public art.

Lihua Chen has held solo and group exhibitions in major cities including Beijing, London, Berlin, and New York, and has been actively involved in numerous public art initiatives. In 2016, she expanded into cross-disciplinary work by designing the overarching theme for Shanghai International Fashion Week, which encompassed stage design, electronic music, and an opening theatrical performance. That same year, her large-scale installation The Comic Character – Ying was installed outside the Agricultural Exhibition Hall on East Third Ring Road in Beijing, becoming a recognizable urban landmark.

In 2023, her large installation A Vision of the World was installed in Long Island, New York. Between 2022 and 2025, she held two solo exhibitions and participated in three group shows at venues including Time Gallery (Greenwich Village), 456 Gallery and VFA Gallery (SoHo), and High Line Gallery (Chelsea).

Lihua Chen’s artistic style is diverse, balancing deep conceptual meaning with a bold visual language. Her work seeks to move beyond surface imagery, revealing the emotional undercurrents that surge beneath calm exteriors.
